The History of 21 High Street
B.G. Green & Son’s and Greens Funeral Services were established in the 1800's, at 21 High Street Eynsham, referred to as Greens Yard by the villagers over the decades, working from the current building and workshop that Eynsham Funeral Services are based, five generations on. 160 years ago, the family business began as a collective of builders, carpenters and funeral directors, or as they would have been called at the time, undertakers. Both businesses worked together to handmake coffins and provided undertakers services, as requested by the local churches in the 1800’s for bereaved families.
Fourth generation Keith Green successfully ran B.G. Green & Son’s until the early 1980’s, when he was asked by his beloved uncle Jack Green if he would consider taking on the funeral part of the business, as Jack wasn’t getting any younger. Jack continued as a coffin bearer well into his eighties and had to be gently persuaded to retire. With that, the decision was made to close B.G. Green & Son enabling Keith to put his heart and soul into the funeral business, truly finding his vocation in life. Keith was a respected and much loved character who cared deeply about the families he looked after. As Keith took over the funeral services he was joined by his wife Tricia Green, son Ian Bernard Green, sister Rosemay Wilsdon (nee Green) and then finally thirty-two years ago his daughter, Annie Green. This enabled the 4th and 5th generations to work together supporting families in Eynsham, surrounding villages and larger parts of Oxford and West Oxfordshire, just as their predecessors did generations before. The business went from strength to strength and built up a reputation of compassion, empathy, kindness and honesty.
Sadly, after a long illness, Keith passed away in January 2013, which affected the family greatly. Keith was a larger-than-life character and active member of the community, helping to reform Eynsham Morris in 1979 and was the group’s first foreman. Keith became a retained fireman at the age of eighteen and later a leading fireman. He was also a member of Oxfordshire Freemasons, fundraiser for Eynsham Cricket Club, aiding in the acquisition of land to build their pavilion. In addition, Keith arranged the annual Christmas Tree in the square every year and was a huge participant in Eynsham Carnival.
More sadness followed a few years later when Rosemary (Keith’s younger sister), also died, following an exceptionally brave fight against Mesothelioma. The impact of losing the 4th Generation so close together was devastating.
For clarity Greens Funeral Services was sold in 2015 to Jerrams Brothers Limited and has not been owned or managed by any member of the Green family since then.
David Bunting and Annie Green have no connection with Greens Funeral Services.
Eynsham Funeral Services
David and Annie are thrilled to be back, doing what they do best, looking after local families, with dignity, respect, care, compassion and kindness, from the original family funeral home at 21 High Street, Eynsham.

David and Annie
David Bunting and Annie Green met around 2004 and married in 2018. Annie’s father Keith was quick to recruit David as a bearer initially as he was running his own business. However, due to Keith’s diagnosis and subsequent illness, David then stepped up to the role as Funeral Director, of which he excelled in. David is very hard working and shows great respect and compassion for the families he deals with, much like his father-in-law, Keith.
From the initial first steps of bringing your loved one into Eynsham Funeral Services care, to the preparation and care of the deceased and up to the day of the funeral service and beyond, David looks after the families and individuals with the upmost respect and kindness, and sometimes with a little sense of humour if required. David and Annie are both respected by the ministers, celebrants and service providers whom they and their family have worked with over the decades.
Annie has been in the funeral industry for over thirty years following an initial career with Barclays Bank. Annie has found her vocation in life and loves looking after families giving genuine care, compassion and support. Having been born and raised in Eynsham, Annie has been honoured to look after many generations of the villagers in Eynsham and beyond, including her Bartholomew School friends families and associates.
When asked by her loved ones how they would describe her they have shared the following:
Caring, compassionate, empathetic, loyal, comforting, welcoming, warm, gives brilliant hugs, reassuring, knowledgeable, loving, supportive of many situations and circumstances and experienced in counselling individuals and families through trauma and grief.
Someone you know, someone who cares
The new business of Eynsham Funeral Services will still continue with the ethos, experience, history and heritage, safe in the hands of the husband and wife team Annie & David. Together with their daughters who have been instrumental in carrying the legacy forward.
